Voices For Our Fathers Legacy Foundation honors and remembers the legacies of the 625 African American men who were victims in the United States Public Health Service Study of Syphilis in the Negro Male at Tuskegee and Macon County, Alabama, 1932 - 1972, by reminding the world of the people and communities profoundly affected by this unethical study. Milbank Memorial Fund contributes annually to Voices For Our Fathers Legacy Foundation Scholarship Fund.

To honor the lives of those impacted by the study, Voices For Our Fathers Legacy Foundation has created a scholarship fund for future descendants. Their purpose is to transform the legacy of the longest-lasting, non-therapeutic study in U.S. medical history from shame and trauma to honor and triumph. This scholarship fund represents a commitment to move future generations forward, allowing them to honor the life experiences of their ancestors, while pursuing innovative solutions across their fields of study to continually improve health inequities amongst African Americans and marginalized people. This fund also demonstrates a new and lasting commitment to improving a health care system that provides everyone with fair and equal medical care regardless of their racial and social status.

Scholarships are awarded to descendants who are graduating high school seniors accepted at an accredited two- or four-year higher educational institution and college students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate or doctoral programs. All applicants must have maintained a 3.0 average on a 4.0 scale, submit in writing the reason for needing financial assistance, and complete the Foundation’s scholarship application. Since 2017, $51,000 has been awarded.  Scholarship Applications for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year can be completed and submitted by clicking HERE.

Voices For Our Fathers Legacy Foundation welcomes individuals and funding partners to join us in building this scholarship fund to support future generations of study descendants.
